How to Choose
Silver does not rust and does not degrade; it reacts with hydrogen sulfide and other sulfur compounds in ordinary indoor air, faster when humidity is high and faster still when the coin sits against rubber, wool, felt, cardboard or PVC. Storage is therefore three jobs: keep the air off the metal, scavenge the sulfur that gets through, and keep humidity low.

Yes. Removing the air removes the sulfur and moisture that cause tarnish. It suits metal you will not touch for years; for coins you handle, tubes with anti-tarnish strips are more practical.
Bullion can be cleaned with a non-abrasive silver dip, but any cleaning reduces the value of collectible coins. Prevention is far cheaper than cleaning.
